I have a front fiber optic sight on my CZ that uses simple 1mm rod. The actual rod bankrupt (they're fragile i suppose) and i ordered some bulk length to repair it and accept some on paw in the time to come. I noticed that the original i looked sort of peened over somehow probably past heat? How practice i install the new ane (i couldn't detect annihilation in a search here or on the net)?

    Jon

  2. Without seeing information technology, I suppose yous could melt the end with a minor soldering iron.

Or secure it with a drop of CYA (Crazy) glue.

This is the model i accept. Its a simple cage that supports the rod (but does not retain) at both ends.

  4. What I do is to insert a piece of rod into the blade and permit nearly 1/16" stick out the front. I cook information technology into a bead with a Bic. And then I turn information technology around to put the dewdrop at the rear, clip the rod to let i/16" protrude, and melt that into a front end dewdrop to retain the insert. A driblet of Krazy Glue at each post on the inside will keep it from bouncing effectually enough to break again. You may employ up some rod getting the bead the size you want it for aiming the gun.

Cheers Jim. When heating the rod, does it want to melt and run and how practice you forbid that? Concur it in a certain orientation while heating? As well, do yous use anything to brew the rod down flat or does the heat/gravity take intendance of that?
  6. As Greg's instructions prove, if you just let a little protrude and don't heat it so hot as to grab it on fire, the surface tension of the melting plastic will draw it into a round dewdrop.

Here is what Dawson says, although I prefer to form one bead, plough the insert effectually, cutting to length and grade the other instead of trying to get the rod to exactly the right length. Notation what they say about a countersink, if your sight bract has one.

  7. My sight transmission said to use one of those high temp, blow torch lighters. Keeps whatever soot from getting into the fiber when it melts.

A BIC lighter volition soot up the rod and turn information technology black.

You lot need to utilize something with a clean flame.

  9. Not if you don't stick the rod in the flame. You can get shut enough for radiant heat to melt the plastic and bead the insert without smoking it.

I'g trying to go the old ane out of the same HiViz sight as shown. I tin't budge the affair, I'k thinking about drilling it out unless you guys know a better style??? I'thousand non trying to save it, then maybe I can burn it out????
  11. Is there room for you to cut information technology in the eye and try pushing information technology out that way?

    Just a thought.

I tried cut it in the eye, it almost feels like it is glued to the bottom of the steel sight frame....

Let me see if I tin explain what I found out.....I melted the old fiber optics out of the sight housing. This is the aforementioned CZ housing as shown in this thread. When I finished excavation out all the old stuff, here is what I found (wish I knew how to post a film) at the base of rounded fiber optic slot is a pivot just backside the forepart of the sight. From the bottom of the sight housing you lot will come across the groove for the pin that retains the sight besides equally the barrel bushing on the CZ. Merely behind that is a niggling pin....this pin protrudes into the channel that holds the fiber optic, when I punched it dorsum downwardly I have a clear path and I'm certain the fiber optic piece will slide correct in, (I don't have one yet and so I couldn't actually try information technology) and so if you punch that pivot dorsum in, information technology will secure the fiber optic to the sight housing. I saw no indication that annihilation else secured the eyes to the housing, such equally heated ends, etc.

    I promise this makes sense????????????????

    JRG,

I understand what you are proverb and perchance that is the blueprint of the particular sight housing you got. Mine does not have that 'feature' though. Incidentally, what model CZ is yours? Mine is a CZ75 SP01 from the CZ custom shop and they install this FO front sight as function of the custom bundle (CZ 75 does not come up standard with a FO sight). You may want to heat the finish of the rod as it causes the plastic to mushroom out and form a much larger and thus more visible tip to the rod (nigh ii-3 times diameter increment). the raw 1mm rod is mighty minor by itself without expansion.

Also, thanks to all of the folks here lending their advice. I was able to use a simple lighter flame in shut proximity to rut the ends and was amazed that they simply flatten out overnice and smooth and not just sag downward.

JonF, mine is the PCR and the sight came from HiViz out of Colorado, and so I'one thousand sure you are right in saying the two housing are different although they look a similar. When I get my rods I volition oestrus the ends as you suggest. Thank you for the input.
